Manchester United midfielder Donny Van De Beek has expressed a subdued reaction after Cristiano Ronaldo’s late winner against Atalanta.
The 24-years-old is enduring a torrid time at Old Trafford since making the move from Eredivisie champions Ajax Amsterdam. The midfielder has made only two starts this season and hasn’t been able to feature since the defeat against West Ham United in the EFL Cup.
The Dutchman was on the bench once again on Wednesday night where the Red Devils made an extremely poor start and found themselves 2-0 down before the interval courtesy of the goals from Mario Pasalic and Merih Demiral.
But, the story of the game completely changed in the second half after the Red Devils scored one back through Marcus Rashford with the help of a misplaced pass from La Dea forward Josip Ilicic.
Solskjaer’s side didn’t have to look back since and scored two more thanks to Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo, completing the comeback.
Van de Beek expressed a subdued reaction after Manchester United winner against Atalanta:
Overall it has turned out to be a memorable night for Manchester United fans, however, one man who didn’t enjoy the night was Donny Van de Beek.
A video posted by United Zone showed that when Ronaldo’s header went in, the whole Red Devils coaches and players went wild and were celebrating apart from the Dutch international. The 24-years-old was standing and clapping blandly without a smile on his face.
It was quite understandable that the highly-rated midfielder is frustrated with his role at Old Trafford and wants to be involved regularly in the starting line-up.
With the midfield personnel like Fred, McTominay and Nemanja Matic all having struggled to showcase consistency so far this season, it wouldn’t have been a bad choice for Solskjaer to give Donny Van de Beek some regular minutes in the midfield pivot role.
